Friends for Our children

"How do we teach our children to love others who choose a worldly path, but not embrace what they are doing and not condemn them?"

Every dad who understands the need to love others and yet has purposed to raise his children "in the nurture and admonition of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4) should be concerned about this. We want to show the love of Christ to all we come in contact with and teach our children to do the same. We should teach our children to shun what Scripture says is wrong and worldly but to embrace what is of the Lord. In doing so, our children will view others through our grid of teaching and deem their conduct, activities and dress as good, bad, or in between. It is a very difficult challenge for our children to choose to live for the Lord Jesus, but not be influenced by other's lifestyles and also not condemn them. "

Retirement home

Every 3rd Thursday Mom ,Alicia and I will go visit a retirement home in Stanwood.

When we first started Alicia and I were very shy of them we did not talk to any of the residents very much, but now Alicia and I have made a new friend. We always are excited to go visit
her and she is always excited to see us when we come. We go to the retirement home with several of our other friends so they bring several residents out in to their activity room and we do crafts or play games with the residents.

Yesterday we went and made ice cream in a bag, it was a lot of fun. The residents all got to shake the bag then we all, even the residents, got to have a little bite of ice cream.

We have done so many fun things there. Alicia and I always look forward to going, not for the fun things or the crafts that we do, but because we love to visit our new friend. When we are with her time goes by so quickly that when it is time for us to go she always asks us if we will come to see her the next month. We always tell her that we hope so and then she is happy to let us go because she knows that we will visit her again. We always have fun and always look forward to the next time we go to visit her.

A GREAT Bread recipe

A friend of mine shared a great recipe for Challah (Jewish bread), so I decided to try to make it yesterday. It turned out pretty good for my first try. Although one of the loaves looks almost like a trussed up turkey (I think I need some work on my bread braiding:) and my wonderful husband felt it could have cooked a little longer. I brought it last night to share with our Home Church (we eat a meal before we worship). Both loaves were almost completely gone, of course, I think there were two boys (wink, wink) who ate a good portion of one loaf. I was so glad to see two young men enjoying home made whole wheat bread, rather than the white paste most children like. (I know that both of these boys are used to eating healthier food.)

Camping

We just returned last night from five days of camping. We had a WONDERFUL time. We went with another family so that just multiplied our enjoyment. We had wonderful times around the campfire at night. We visited a mission, a museum, spent time at the beach, (we went to Lake Roosevelt in North eastern Washington) and went fishing. We ate wonderful meals, saw lots of wild life, took a nap or two and just enjoyed each others company. Here are a few photos of our experience.

Helping our Friends

This week we had the privilege of watching our friends' dog. The dog's name is Ivy, she is a bulldog. She was a lot of fun. We enjoyed playing tug-of-war with her and watching her wiggle around when she was excited. She loved getting as much attention as we would give her. She enjoyed sunning herself on the deck and running with our poodle in the yard. They would chase each other in circles until they were about ready to collapse. She liked to try and sneak food from our dog's dish, but we would just say "Ivy" and she would look at us like, "am I doing something wrong?" She was quite a character.
