Gardening and Sewing

Now that we have a camera , we are able to share how our garden is doing, as well as other things that are happening around our home.

(Our camera broke so we have no photos of our hunting/fishing trip, target shooting or Thanksgiving. We hopefully will get one soon though.)

Winter Sewing for 2008-2009

We are getting settled into our fall routine and it is now time to get our winter sewing done. I am trying for the first time, to make winter coats. My daughters grew out of theirs again, and it is time for new ones. We have looked at a couple of stores and they were either too short or too expensive or not warm enough. So I decided to make them. I had purchased the pattern last year from a great pattern supplier. On Saturday, I cut out the outer layer of the coat, it is made from a medium weight blue denim. I ordered the lining on Friday (it was on sale so I got a great price for it) and it will be delivered next Friday. I will sew together the outside this week, then when the lining comes in I will cut it out and finish assembling the coats. I can't wait for them to be complete. They are going to be so warm.

I will also be making other warm clothes for this winter. I love to sew and I love to see my family wearing the clothes that I make and know that they will be warm and comfortable during the winter.

Our dog thought I was sitting on the floor so I could play with her, she kept bringing her ball for me to throw.

This Week's Sewing Accomplishments

This week we were able to complete six blouses and three aprons.

Here are a few photos from our sewing this week. We were able to complete:
-3 skirts
-2 vests
-36 handkerchiefs

We also are over half way done with 6 blouses!! We will be hard at work on Monday to complete the blouses, and work on the aprons, jumpers and dresses.

Making Clothes

Well, it is that time of year again for us. We go through our closets and drawers and see what fits and what doesn't and then where we need to fill in the gaps. We decided to start today, as we will be going to Florida in September to visit Ralph's Dad (he will have his 75th birthday while we are there) and we wanted to make sure we had enough clothes to last us while we are there and that it was all presentable.



Anyway, Alicia, Hannah, and I took stock of our clothes and saw where we needed to fill in the gaps. Both of the girls are growing, so there was quite a need this year. This afternoon, I cut out three skirts and 6 blouses. Hannah cut out 10 handkerchiefs. Tomorrow we will cut out 2 dresses, 1 jumper, 2 vests, 3 aprons, and 3 nightgowns. Hannah will cut out about 2 dozen more handkerchiefs. She enjoys doing embroidery work on them.



Next will come the fun part...the assembling. I love to sew and the girls are learning to enjoy it too. I will try to take some photos as we work and then maybe have the girls model some of the finished clothing.

Once we return from Florida we will have to make some more winter clothes too. But that will have to wait until late September. :)

My New Apron

For sewing class I made an apron. It did not take very long. I like to sew, it takes a lot of practice to get good at it. I can't wait until I get to sew clothes for my future children.
